Students cook vegan in the canteen!

"Give us a whirl" was the motto of the vegan recipe competition among all students at the universities in Landau, Ludwigshafen, Germersheim and Worms. With her recipe "Milane's Bean Balls Spaghetti", Ms Kühnel prevailed against almost 50 competitors from the jury, which consisted of all of the university and Green Office staff.

In addition to the prize money of 200 euros, which will be loaded directly onto the canteen menu, Ms Kühnel's recipe must now also prove itself at the Studierendenwerk's food counter.

On 10 July, Ms Kühnel will be cooking her recipe in the Fortstraße canteen in Landau from 07:00 - together with our chefs - and will supervise all steps of the production process from chopping to serving the dish between 11:30 - 13:30.

Vegan cuisine at the Studierendenwerk

The Studierendenwerk offers a fully vegan food line with a daily changing menu and has completely switched to a vegan diet during the semester break since 2024.

"The food figures prove us right, because the vegan options have now overtaken the meat options," says Andreas Dubiel - Head of University Catering - describing the current situation in his canteens. "Vegan food is no longer a niche product, but a clear demand from the young guests we cook for every day. If the recipe competition also proves successful in terms of the number of meals served at the canteen, we will certainly repeat it."
