Parents' information on starting at KiTa Lufanten

Dear parents,
With your entry into the kindergarden, a new phase of life begins for you and your child. In the spirit of a successful educational partnership, it is important to us that you gain trust in our facility. The basis of trust is reliable information.

You are probably wondering what will happen to your child and to you, and many questions will probably accompany you when you entrust your child to our educational staff. We would like to answer these questions - as far as possible - and provide you with important information to make the start easier for you and your child. We also want to give you a first impression of our work.

The team of the day care centre
The Kita Lufanten has 6.0 approved professional positions, which are divided into full-time and part-time positions. As a rule, 3 professionals are responsible for each group. In addition, trainees who are in their training to become educators work in the two groups. Every year, we also take on one trainee in the voluntary social year. Furthermore, school trainees are in the house throughout the year. We see the guidance and support of these interns as a welcome enrichment of our daily pedagogical routine, as well as an important core task in order to optimally train future professionals during their training. To keep the day care centre running, we need our housekeeper.
Owner of the institution
The institution is run by the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz, represented by Mr Marcel Schmitt.
The sponsor is responsible for the operational management of the facility. It provides rooms and financial resources and is the employer of the childcare centre staff. It is also responsible for the economic and legal supervision of the childcare facility.
Management of the facility
Ms Kerstin Thon, state-approved educator.
Our opening hours
Our facility is open Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 16:30.
Closing times: The Kita Lufanten has a total of 14 - 15 closing days, which are on bridging days and during the Christmas holidays. In February and September, the day care centre closes for 2 days each for further training of the team and joint planning of our pedagogical work. You will receive a list of these closing days at the beginning of the year.
Bring and pick up
  • In order for our educational offers to start on time, the children should be at the facility by 9:00 a.m. at the latest.
  • Please note the difference between pick-up time (10 minutes before the end; 16:20) and care time (16:30). Care should be taken to collect your child within the pick-up time so that you can leave the Kita on time at the end of the childcare period.

In order to make it easier for the children to find their way actively into the group and play activities, as well as to be able to participate in weekly activities (e.g. excursions, projects), we have a core time from 9:15 to 14:00. During this time, all children should be in the house.

Please note the following when dropping off and picking up your child:
  • When dropping off and picking up, make sure that no child runs out. Wait until the entrance door has closed!
  • Always lock the gate! Also make sure that your child does not open the gate!
  • The pedagogical staff's duty of supervision does not begin until you have left your child with us. It is important that we actively witness the arrival of the child.
  • The educators' duty of supervision ends as soon as your child and we have noticed you at pick-up.

All children need:
  • Sturdy slippers
  • Gym slippers with rubber soles & slip-on socks
  • Weatherproof clothing (mud pants, rain jacket, rubber boots)
  • a change of clothes
  • if needed: dummy, cuddly toy, etc.
  • a plastic drinking bottle
  • in summer, sun hat and sun cream
  • kindergarten backpack

Diaper-changing children also need for their separate diaper-changing drawer:
  • nappies & wet wipes
  • change of clothes
  • Cream (tube)

Please bring everything on the first day and label everything visibly and permanently with your child's name!
What is the settling-in phase like?
When your child comes to the nursery, the settling-in period begins. This takes place in 3 phases and is oriented towards the needs of the child. The aim of our settling-in is to build up a secure "bonding relationship". The length of time required depends, among other things, on the individuality of your child, the pattern of their attachment relationship and their previous experiences with separation situations.

Phase 1 of settling in is the basic phase.
In this phase, your child stays in the group with the parent or another caregiver for about 1 hour. You, as the caregiver, remain in the group room for the entire time and take on a more passive role. You should give the child a feeling of security. The focus of this phase is on the play situation. Your child should familiarise itself in/with the new environment and freely determine its play and development activities. The educator seeks contact with the child. In the following days, the educator will continue her efforts to gently approach your child. The goal for the child should be to achieve a certain stabilisation through the repetition of the situations.

Phase 2 of settling in is the stabilisation phase.
During this time, your child makes its first experiences with temporary separation from you. You will leave the group room for a short time after you have told your child. You should not leave the facility during this phase.
The aim of the stabilisation phase is to gradually increase the absence of the parents, up to a half-day stay of the child in the facility. This phase is completed as soon as your child has managed a separation period of 1.5 hours without any problems.

Phase 3 of settling in is the final phase.
In the final phase, you accompany your child to the group and say goodbye. You no longer need to be at the facility, but you should be available at all times. Your child's familiarisation is considered complete when he or she accepts the teacher as a "secure base" and allows him or her to comfort him or her. Now the child can participate in the daily routine of the day care centre.
Cooperation with the parents
Based on our assumption that "parents are experts and the most important caregivers for their children" and "educators are the experts of the pedagogical work", it is unthinkable to renounce common ways. The parents' achievements and resources are elementary basic values and foundations that must be recognised and integrated if one wants to grasp a child in its entirety. We regard the cooperation between the pedagogical staff and parents as an appreciative attitude based on mutual respect.

Our goals for a successful educational partnership are:
  • Transparency of the pedagogical work: mutual disclosure of the pedagogical approach to the child.
  • Agreements regarding educational goals, educational behaviour, support for parents.
  • Exchange in the form of door-to-door talks, development talks (once a year), parents' evenings, parents' information in the form of letters and notices, joint excursions, festivities, etc.
Cooperation with parents is also indispensable for the success of our festivals, celebrations and events. As parents, you contribute significantly to the success of all events. Tasks include setting up and taking down tables and chairs at festivals, donating and selling cakes, creatively designing scenery and decorations, and much more. If you would like to participate in the daily educational routine and actively offer activities for the children, please contact the teachers in your child's group. We are also happy to have you accompany us on theatre visits or other excursions.
Complaint management for parents
Your concerns are important to us! We want your child to do well in our centre and to feel comfortable with us - that's what we do every day.
However, not everything always goes smoothly. Sometimes there are disagreements, frustration and anger. If you would like to tell us about your needs, your concerns and your criticism, you have the following options:
  • Contact us in person
  • Make an appointment with a teacher from the group.
  • Make an appointment with the management of the centre.
  • Contact the parents' council and ask for mediation
  • Word your concern in writing on the homepage of the Studierendenwerk in the LUfanten section.
Our aim is to find a solution to your concern immediately and to strive for a consensus.

The Parents' Committee

How is the Parents' Committee formed?
The members of the parents' committee and their representatives are elected by the parents and other legal guardians of the children attending the day care centre in a parents' meeting for one year at a time. All parents and other legal guardians whose children attend the day care centre are entitled to vote and can be elected. The
The parents' committee is elected at a parents' meeting. This usually takes place in September. Parents who would like to be elected are welcome to stand for election. The number of members of the parents' committee is twice the number of groups in the day care centre, but at least three. All groups of the day care centre should be represented in the parents' committee if possible.
Who is coming together for a meeting and when?
The Parents' Committee shall hold its first meeting within one month of the election and shall elect the Chairperson and his/her representative by simple majority. Meetings are held by arrangement if there is a need to discuss. A few days before the meeting, the management invites all parties involved. The responsible body or the members of the parents' committee may also request that a meeting be convened at any time. A representative of the provider and the management of the day care centre should attend the meetings of the parents' committee. Other persons called in by the parents' committee may also participate in an advisory capacity. Minutes are taken at each meeting. These minutes are sent to all parents by e-mail and are then displayed on the information board in the front hallway for the information of all parents.
What are the responsibilities of the Parents' Committee?
  • Promoting cooperation between the parents and the KiTa team.
  • Advising on all important decisions concerning the KiTa
  • Planning and supporting function for festivals, events and projects
  • Contact point for parents in case of problems in the day-to-day life of the KiTa
  • Supporting function in raising funds for festivals, etc.
How can you support the Parents' Committee?
  • Join the Parents' Committee! Elections are coming up again in October and you are welcome to stand for election!
  • Bring your ideas to the table! Share them with the Parents' Committee!
  • Get involved through active participation! Every participation brings us a bit further, brings us together and helps us to give the children a wonderful time at the nursery!

Closing words
Dear parents,
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the teachers or the management. We will try - within the scope of our possibilities - to accommodate you and find a solution to your concerns.

Finally, we would like to say that it is essential for us that your children feel comfortable here with us, enjoy coming and have a carefree and happy time at the KiTa. Because your children are the ones who must always be the centre of attention! They are our focus and we want to accompany them on their journey through life. For the development of their self-education processes, every child needs a living environment that on the one hand gives "space" to their autonomy aspirations, but on the other hand also offers them sufficient security, protection and support. With our pedagogical work we would like to make this possible for your children.
